I have had many experiences that have given me the opportunity to grow as an educator. Through the MSET program, I have been able to grow even more. My teaching philosophy has been my guide throughout my young career and also through my experiences. Relationships are key to having a safe environment with students. Building relationships with students helps them in the classroom with how they approach school, subject areas, and even how they treat others. Making sure that students are able to feel welcome at school because they have a teacher that cares about them is important to me. I want students to be able to see me years later and talk about how their life is going.
Being a positive role model is another key to my teaching philosophy. I make a conscious effort to set a good example for my students. The way I act and talk in the classroom causes students to act and talk in the same demeanor. A way that I try to be a positive role model is to show empathy towards others and to my students. Letting the students know that I am there for them and that I understand where they are coming from. Being understanding of them shows that I care about them. Some students do not have that role model in their life, which really makes me think how important my job is. I get the chance to be a role model for a student and make a positive impact on them.
The last key aspect of my teaching philosophy is to empower students. By empowering students in the classroom, I am able to lay a foundation for students to take risks and have a passion for their own learning. Students should believe they can do anything and not be discouraged. A smile a student's face after they have accomplished something they have been striving for is why I want to keep on encouraging students. It is encouraging for me because I have empowered the students to continue to work hard and want to get better.
Altogether, these key ideas of my teaching philosophy is for the students. I want what is best for the students and for them to come out of my classroom loving school. Seeing a smile on a student's face after accomplishing a goal is reassuring. It shows that they are able to achieve anything. I hope to continue my teaching philosophy throughout my career and continue to grow with it.
